TN can't add new medical colleges, seats https://ift.tt/Cf7p3c9

New regulations by the undergraduate medical board of the National Medical Commission will make it tougher for Tamil Nadu to add new medical colleges or increase the number of MBBS seats in existing colleges. The regulations cap the total number of MBBS seats in a medical college at 150 and set a ratio of 100 MBBS seats for every 10 lakh population in a state or union territory. The decision aims to ensure resources are spent judiciously and ensure a uniform distribution of doctors across the country. However, Tamil Nadu health officials argue that the state's policy is to establish a medical college in every district to ensure equal distribution of doctors and tertiary care facilities.
