One of the oldest patients in the city to survive a cardiac treatment was a 97-year-old man who had recently had a pacemaker implanted at a private hospital. The patient had experienced syncope, or an abrupt period of unconsciousness, along with a "complete heart block." The patient, Haripada Paul, was admitted, had a temporary pacemaker inserted, and healed well enough to be released in two days.
