The health facility had started off as Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims), Hyderabad, extension campus and was proposed for upgradation under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) in 2006, but saw the formal inauguration of out-patient (OP) services only in March, 2016. It was subsequently rechristened as AIIMS, Bibinagar. The first batch of MBBS, comprising 50 students, was started in August, 2019.
