Experts suggest that India is now in the ‘endemic’ phase of COVID-19, meaning that the daily numbers are low, relatively steady and having minor fluctuations. Despite the rise in cases, XBB.1.16 is not likely to lead to another major wave, as Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister yesterday reassured, “We need to remain alert but there is no need to worry. Currently, the sub-variant of Omicron which is circulating in the country hasn't increased hospitalisations.” However, he recommended that there is a need to remain vigilant.
